A Study on Depression and Humor of Nursing Students


Abstract
This study was designed to identity depression and humor of nursing students.
The study participants was a convenience sample of 93 nursing students in Kang Won-Do. Data were collected from Apr. 15 to Apr. 10, 1995.
The instruments Used were the Situational Humor Response Questionable developed by Martin &
Lefcourt (1983), the Beck Depression Inventory modified by Eun Young Lee.
Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, ANOVA,Pearson correlation coefficient, t-Test. The results of this study can be summarized:
I . The average degree of depression for all subjects was 36.39¡¾6.62 with a range from 22 to 58 out of a total possible range of 21-84 points.
2. The average degree of humor for all subjects was 43.02¡¾5.81 with a range from 30 to 66 out of a total possible range of 18-94 points.
3. Significant differences were found in the general features of satisfied with a school subject and depression (F=4.1 l ,p<0.01).
4. Significant differences were found in the general features of number of sister members and humor (F=2.69, P<0.05).
5 No significant statistical difference was found between depression and humor.
